A Fine Madness

This is a site that traces the evolution of an obsession. Over two years in the planning, and seemingly never-ending in execution, this project is the largest water garden/landscaping endeavor that I’ve ever attempted. It is part chronicle for myself; part warning to others, lest they become ensnared in a similar fashion, and continuing testimony to the unending patience of my wife, Linda, and our pets, Missy, Maggie, and Foxie.

12/27/01 - As of mid February 2002, we will be moving to a new house. The fate of this pond is still undetermined. The new house represents another opportunity for pond building. In fact, it is probably better than this one. The gears are turning....Think Spring!.............

Acknowledgements: I didn’t do this alone. There are literally hundreds of people who deserve mention for their contributions, both in person and by their written contributions all across the Internet. I hope that this site helps someone else achieve their dream water garden just as these folks helped me move from paper to reality.

Scott Ware

My old college roommate, who built a pond in Pullman Village in South Chicago in a brownstone backyard a lot smaller than mine and inspired me to give it a try. He’s a landscape designer now!

Helen Nash

Greg Bickal

whose detailed descriptions were infinitely helpful - both when used and when disregarded.

and hundreds of other ponders who left their marks on the internet and in doing so, on me.
