Construction

This was all new to me. The largest pond I had done was on my front porch. Yes, I had been planning this for years, but planning and doing are two different things. I comparison shopped till my head spun. I finally had to get started.

Although everything went pretty smoothly for a first effort, I took some shortcuts which I later regretted, and I also tried to save some money where I shouldn’t have. Both ended up costing me a lot of water and effort later.

Make sure that the measures you take are sufficient to the task, and note that there is no detail so small that it can’t cause a mysterious leak.

If you have the tools and a computer (for research!), some general home repair skills, especially plumbing (PVC work) and aren’t above taking a pick and shovel out to the back yard, this is something that anyone can do (anyone with access to a backhoe, that is).
