Final

1/07/02: With our impending move to the new house, and without a definite buyer for this one, the fate of the pond is still in the balance.

In the meanwhile, life goes on and the pond is asleep. The fantail is indoors, eating like a pig. (My hand is there for scale)

A recent snowfall has made the pond serenely and silently beautiful and I cannot but help be a little wistful. (Is it time for a pond retrospective?) In any case, I share a few parting photos.

Here’s what I learned from this pond:

1. Site preparation is everything; good quality liner and pumps, solid plumbing and elecric lines are all necessary to create a good, light maintenance water garden. Combining these elements will make the plants and fish - and you all happy.

2. Creating a balanced ecosystem is not as hard as it seems. Moderation in all things is the key here.

3. Getting there is half the fun. The process of design and creation is as much a part of the enjoyment of the project as just sitting back and enjoying it.

On to bigger and better water gardens!

3/9/02 Well the house is sold and the new people want the pond. So the pond will live on. Whether the new owners will continue the work, including concealing the reveal or whether they will take on the responsibilities of pond ownership or let the entire thing deteriorate remains to be seen.
