The Porch Pond

In March 1999, I moved to Evansville, Indiana and the outdoors beckoned. Yes, the backyard was there but I wasn’t ready to tackle that yet. I started out by consolidating my two apartment ponds into a new porch pond. The bucket became a head basin for a waterfall, and the preformed pond was the main pond body. I was one step closer to the big ponds. I added an Egglite and a fogger and the porch pond is a 3 season feature of our home.

But it was time to start thinking about the big ponds......

7/16/01: Just when things got hot and heavy on the big ponds, lo and behold, the hard shell porch pond sprang a leak for the second time. Instead of doing a knee-jerk reflex response of buying yet another hard liner, I reconstructed the porch pond with some EPDM. The old shell lasted 2 seasons. Never again with preformed shells, said I.
