After a few years in Detroit, with trade school and some work experience under my belt, Vick and I were feeling the call to continue our drift back East where we both had our roots. Grandparents and parents age, and somehow we knew it was time to move back. We ended up in Queens. We'd been together for 5 years already. It seemed like 5 days.

Lacking the imagination to come up with a great 6th anniversary present, I asked Vick to marry me for our anniversary. With John and Cecilia Noble in tow as witnesses, we headed for the Queens County Courthouse in Jackson Heights to join the line of recent immigrants to get hitched.

We had wanted to get married on the 9th, the anniversary when we actually started to go out together, but Veterans Day intervened and we ended up getting married on November 10, 1978.

PictureSo Vick set up housekeeping in Auburndale, while I worked for a printing company in lower Manhattan (a two fare zone). It took 1-1/2 hours to commute each way - that's 3 hours a day and while it was great to be close to family, New York living was a pain in the butt. The half-assed rock band that moved in downstairs didn't help either."Hey man, we gotta practice, don't we?"

We started making excursions out to New Jersey to find a place to live that was more convenient to work and closer to our New Jersey based family. It wasn't long before we found a place in a stroke of incredibly good luck
